Rio Grande Swim

As a student of New Mexico State University, it became a spring rite to go inner tubing on the Rio Grande river.

I can remember putting on my face mask and diving under the surface. The water was so muddy that through the dim light, I could only make out a vague form of my hand. In fact, the only time anything came into clear focus was when it actually touched the surface of my goggles.

As I swam closer to the surface the light became brighter, and when my head suddenly popped above the surface everything became crystal-clear.

"Rio Grande Swim" Commentary:

Life has been described in India as a great river "Maya". Souls are swimming in this river of illusion. It is only the seeker of light that occasionally surfaces and can see clearly.
