Short
Description of Powerful Mental Development
by Roger Cantu ISBN 1-55212-508-4
In Roger Cantu's book, POWERFUL
MENTAL DEVELOPMENT, readers take a journey through the land
of power, energy, and awareness. After many years of studying
the teachings of some of the most enlightened people in our
times, Roger Cantu has created a step-by-step guide to helps
us gain control over our time, life, and mind.
"This simple method encompasses an effortless practice
of meditation and self-discovery," says Cantu. "This
method teaches the readers how to have an alert, poised mind,
a happy mind, a relaxed and balanced mind. You
will be more successful at work, in school, and in all phases
of being."
The essence of this method is the study of the development of
different states of mind and their effects on our awareness
and experiences. This type of mental evolution is the main theme
in POWERFUL MENTAL
DEVELOPMENT.
"Mental evolution means to understand and experience the
different patterns of your life," says Cantu. "The
mental pattern that you are experiencing right now, combined
with your past patterns, creates new
patterns that will ultimately affect your future. As you learn
to practice POWERFUL MENTAL DEVELOPMENT, you will discover that
you too can see beyond the normal level of awareness that most
people experience. You will see that we are made up of intelligence
and light."
"With the practice outlined in POWERFUL MENTAL DEVELOPMENT,
you will learn to still your mind completely, to stop your thoughts
from bothering you, and to become more conscious. The curtain
of darkness will part and you will find a new life, one you
have never experienced before."
POWERFUL MENTAL DEVELOPMENT includes quotes from books by the
14th Dalai Lama, Sri Sathya Sai Baba, Rama, Carlos Castaneda,
Lama Ole Nydahl and others. The book also includes personal
experiences and anecdotes with some of these great teachers.
Some of the topics included in this book are: the journey of
self-discovery; merging the heart and mind; meditation techniques;
increasing your energy; how to develop willpower; the essence
of happiness; wisdom, knowledge and kundalini; career development;
mindfulness; stress management; overcoming fears; success in
sports; karma -- the law of cause and effect; and personal power.
Iinterview With The
Author
Why did you decide to
write a book?
My intent in writing this book is share some of the wonderful
knowledge that I received from Rama through the years.
What did you learn by writing a book?
I came to the realization that you learn a lot more about a
certain topic when you try to explain it to someone else. Going
over old notes, books, and memories, helped me to gain a deeper
understanding of the nature of meditation and self-discovery.
Do you have any suggestions to help others publish
their books?
Write, write, write. Then, rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. When the
book is ready, the right publisher will come along.
How do you inspire yourself to write?
Caffeine... It's better to write late at night. If you don't
have the time late at night, early in the morning works well
too. Have some music in the background. For some reason, I write
better when I listen to "Cayman Blue" by Zazen.
Do you have any funny stories about things that happened
while you were writing the book?
I wrote the first draft of my book at one of the computer labs
at UCLA. My friend Jane used to come over between classes, hang
out, and try to read parts of the book before it was finished.
It was very encouraging. One day, one of the lab assistants
started reading the book over my shoulder and started asking
all kinds of questions about meditation and kundalini yoga.
He told me that he wanted a copy of the book when I was done,
otherwise he would tell the lab supervisor that I was going
over the 4 hour a day computer usage limit at the lab.
Do you have anything else that you would like to add?
Writing a book is like having a child. Once it's out there people
will see it and you will experience many emotions; excitement,
pride, embarrassment, mortification, and a great sense of joy.
